Spare Tire

Does anyone know how to get the spare tire out from underneath the truck? I'm pretty sure that there is a tool that is used to lower the tire but I don't have the tool and was wondering if there is another way to get the tire out?
Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

All you really need is something to insert in the carrier and roate it, should resemble a flat-headed screwdriver on steroids

Yeah I was considering just cutting the whole thing off because I'm not going to use it again.

You use the long arm that's part of the screw bottle jack, if you have that.

Lacking that, perhaps a piece of 3/8" re-bar with the end hammered flat would do the trick.

Yea the truck didn't come with a jack or anything when i bought it. But if a long piece of metal with a flat end will work I'll try that before I just cut the whole thing off.

right by the rear license plate should be a small round cut out. if you look through this, you should see what looks like a large flat head bolt type of thing. the tool that is supposed to be in the truck is a long bar with a loop on the end that is flat. the tool is supposed to go through the hole next to the license plate and inserted into the flat bolt and turn (not sure if clockwise or counter clockwise) this should lower the tire down from a chain to the ground. since you dont have the tool, something as simple as what everyone has mentioned would work. as for the grinder? why? dont use a grinder. the whole system should unbolt from the frame if you choose not to use it. as for the 33 tire underneath? only way to find out is to try. hope this helps.

I think If I moved my exhaust, I could fit the 33x12.50 spare tire under there but because its so wide, the tire might hang below my bumper... might look goofy, but im willing to try it.

but I do know that the stock swing out tire carrier can and will hold up to a 36"

if your still getting that body lift its a PIA to get the spare off. you gotta take the whole plastic strip off for the tool to be able to line up with the little winch.

just thought id throw that in there

Might try Craigslist or eBay to find the spare tire tool. I made a replacement once with a steel rod and a small dowel pin crosswise in the end. You can fit a 33 in there with relocated tail pipe or at least wrap the pipe in insulation. Tight fit, you need to pull the tire back from it's natural hanging spot and make sure it is perfectly center side-side:

33x9.50 below:

Probably gonna just try some different things, the dowel pin idea sounds pretty good thanks 4Crawler. Don't really want to buy the tool since once I get the tire out I'm probably never gonna put another one in.
