Spacer/adapter questions
Hey guys,
I did a search but couldnt find all the answers I was looking for,
I plan on putting adapters or spacers on my 98 ltd 4runner. Right now I have 31'" tires, but plan on putting wider and taller tires on. My rims had too much backspacing, so i am not sure if the tires would fit yet because they might rub.
I am putting a 2.5" spacer lift on soon. Will my 31" tires rub at all if I install spacers? The tires were barely rubbing the fender flares when I put the new wheels on, so I had to do some trimming, so Im wondering if the lift is put on and the wheels stick out further, will they rub?
Also, does my steering need to be realigned after the spacers are installed?
Are spacers/adapters safe to put on? I didnt think it would matter because the wheels dont stick out much, so what is the difference between using spacers and buying a wheel with less backspace? Also, im not sure but I heard that they need to be hub centric in order to fit right.
thanks for the input. Im still new to all of this.

no i am going to install the spacers so I can later put on some 285/75/16s. I currently have 31"s, so i was rwondering if the tires will rub even with the 31s. I thought that spacers widen the wheel base, therefore the wheels are closer to rubbing against the wheel well. am i wrong?

Sorry, I know this thread is old, but this is for those who run across this thread in a search forum:
Putting spacers on a stock suspension rig with 31s will most likely rub your flares. without a lift, adding spacers/adapters will make your wheels run into your fender flares. I had to remove my flares and trim the bumper under the flares. Just for future references.
oh and the spacer adapters I found this out on are 1-1/4 thick.
