Shifter boot question

Hey guys the shifter boots on my 86 truck are both split and leaking hot/cold air. This truck was originally an auto but now has the 5spd trans. I was looking under the boots and come to find out thats the only boot between there and the trans. Shouldn't there be another boot under the one in the cab? Thanks

There is a boot right at the base of the shifter:

Then the heavy rubber ones pictured above, then the cloth/vinyl/leather boots that you see.
