RR DIFF LOCK? ... Really?

Greetings all, I have a 1999 SR-5 4-runner "Highlander Package" with a 5-spd, 6 cylinder and 4wd. Here is my question... I was driving it today and the sun hit the dash board just right and I could see all of the warning lights that were not illuminated... and directly to the left of the low gas warning light was "RR DIFF LOCK" ... I am pretty sure that my 4-Runner does not have that option... but the light is definately on the dash and I have no reason to believe that the dash was ever changed-out.
Did the same dash go in every one despite the actual option? (i.e. do the 2wd models have dashboards with the 4wd light on them?) ... that would seem a little sloppy, but I suppose it is possible.
Any thoughts?

Have you got an "RR DIFF LOCK" button to the left of your steering column?

No RR DIFF LOCK Button that I am aware of... just the "Clutch Start Cancel" button

To have unused lights on the dash is not uncommon. For instance, mine has a A/T(Automatic Transmission) oil temp warning light. But my truck has a manual transmission.

Easiest way to check if you do have an elocker is to look at your rear diff and check to see if you have an motor and electrical connection going to it. Takes less than 5 seconds. Otherwise you obviously have a short some where in your dash causing the RR light to come on

Something tells me that if it really did, there'd be a switch/button to activate it. Or what's the point?

The 2wd models do not have the 4wd lights.

I have an 02 4wd and I believe i still have the RR DIFF light despite the absence of both the button and the motor attached attached to my rear diff

It's standard to have the spot for the light on the dash. Mine has it, but no elocker.

The dash has the RR Diff lock indicator but it will never light up as you don't have the e-locker. My truck is the same. It was practial to make the dash the same on all 4runners.

I have an RR diff lock lens in my 99 base model single cab.

Conclusion? They put that lens in every single cluster. If you don't have the button and you don't have an actuator on the rear differential then you don't have that option.

The light wasn't coming on, the sunlight was hitting it just right.

This

They build the faceplates the same for every model. The difference is the circuit board on the back. If you truck has diff lock, it will have a different circuit board and a socket with a bulb in it.

Needless to say your truck, sadly, does not have diff lock.
