Retrofitting a stock locker on a 2nd gen 4runner?

I have a 91 4runner and have been considering getting a locker. I was wondering if I could possibly save some money by finding a newer toyota with a factory locker and bolting it on to my 2nd gen. Is this possible without major modifications or fabrication?

Try doing a search for "elocker" or similar as this is a common thing.

Yes, it is possible. You have to drill/tap a couple of holes. Search for all the details - you should find a link to a writeup on 4x4wire

I have seen quite a few elockers for sale on TTORA. Prices vary widely, but minimum price for a usable third member seems to be about $350 + shipping. You will very likely have to regear as they are usually 4.10, so add $300 for gears/install kit and you're over the cost of a lunchbox locker, about the same as a full Detroit, and almost to an ARB.

I was looking at this too and found that if you want to lock both front and rear AND have some degree of onboard air, ARB is actually the cheapest. About $2500 will get you locked front/rear and regeared, with install if you take the thirdmembers out and to the shop.

PM Strap22 for the best price out there on ARB lockers.
