What should be next for my 91 4x4?
I recently got a 91 4runner sr5 v6 5speed. Right now its stock except for 32in offroad tires. Its seems to do great offroad so far and I dont plan on doing anything to extreme but I was wondering what are the best mods to start with for my daily driver? So far the ground clearance has been fine. The thing that worries me the most is the IFS but a solid axle swap is out of the question. What parts of the suspension and drive train are most likely to break during offroading? And I have the stock Brush guard, fueltank and I believe transfer case guard, is there anything else I should protect?
Thanks

The stock xfer case skid will bend under a hard impact, the case itself is somwhat vulnerable.
The first thing you need to do is to decide what you wish to do. If you do very little offroading, or just on dirt roads, and fireroads, then stock will be fine.
If you wish to offroad more, your first concern will be traction. Differential lockers will correct the problem. At that time you may wish to regear your differentials, as it will be more cost effective to do both at the same time. Then look to armor. A front and rear bumper, and some sliders. After that look to see if an inexpensive lift and some tires is for you.
You would have very little need for a swap at this point. Your IFS will not be your weak link until you get onto some much more difficult trails with larger tires and lockers.
I suggest you wheel it a bit, and decide for yourself what the weak areas are, and modify as you see fit.

Good posting Ike - dead on.
I would do armor (particularly sliders) first on a daily driver. Getting rocker panel damage and not being able to open/close the doors sucks!
Then lockers.
You can fit 33x10.50 with no lift.
Wheel the hell out of it and go from there depending on your needs.

yes, sliders are good. Help with someone dinging your door in a parking lot too.
You could go to the 33x10.5s, but i would wait until your 32's wear out first. There isn't going to be much of a difference.
Keep in mind that when it comes to suspension and drivetrain breakage, driver error will be the main cause. Keep your wheelspinning to a minimum, and don't take it off any sweet jumps just yet. Try not to ram large things at high speed either.

Thanks for the info, yeah I should look into sliders. How much do they usually run? I saw the bud built transfer case skid plate and it looked REALLY nice, but I was a little shocked when I saw the price. I don't want to pay 300 bucks for what is essentially a peice of metal. ( I know there is more to it than that, but still) Do you know of anyones that are a little more affordable? My 32s already rub when I'm turning, but maybe those 33s you suggested aren't as wide. I was thinking about getting wheel spacers but theres things I'd put the money twards before that.
Thanks

Essentially everything you buy for your truck is going to be just a piece of metal. There are other xmembers out there. Look at all pro, marlin, etc...These can be found by a google search.
If you spend 300 on a a skid and 300 on sliders. Thats 600 bucks. If you crack your transfer case, probably at least 600. And mashing your rocker into your doors will not be a cheap fix either.
The 33's are going to be an inch slimmer, so you'll have less rubbing issues. It's generally not the height that is the problem, but the width.
This is not a cheap, nor a financially responsible sport/hobby. You usually depreciated the value by modding on it, as people are reluctant to purchase a truck that has been "messed with".
Wheel it as far as you are comfortable with, if that means you need some modifications to do so, then you will be able to make those determinations based upon what you yourself have experienced, not what everyone on the internet thought was cool.
