remote start recommendations

well winter is here again and i am wanting to put a remote start, keyless entry on my 1996 4runner. Not looking to break the bank but want a quality product. Just wondering if you all had any experience with these and what everybody is recommending.

The DEI syetms (Viper, etc.) have gotten pretty good reviews as far as I know. I think you'll need to plan on spending about $400 for an alarm system with remote start unfortunately, I'm not sure what "break the bank" is for you.

I have a CODE remote start/keyless system that I got from circuit city for under $100. Then installation would've been pricey (~150 i believe), but I had a friend who did it for me. I've had no problems with it at all, been installed about a year now. Let me know if you have any questions

I have installed a bunch of these: http://www.ultrastarters.com/

They were all in standard transmission vehicles. If your car/truck is an automatic, I'd say get one that's made by DEI. I've had no problems with either of these brands.

An alarm like that can't be tooo hard to install, mainly running wires and hiding little black boxes. So many things to buy so little money

I'm looking to get one of these as soon as I possibly can, probably another two weeks and I'll snag one. I'm keeping tabs on the Vipers since I have a chance to get a huge discount on them. I know they make a key less entry system with remote start, which is exactly what I want. I don't really want an alarm if I can help it.

if you do install it yourself... ground out the hood open safety (everytime it rains hard it sets mine off due to water going in the hood button) and wrap every single wire with black electrical tape ( gives the bad guys a little bit harder time trying to figure out which wire to cut)

I Have the newest version of the DEI viper on my 2000. It cost $500 instaled. It has a range of one mile. I have tested it and I can start it one mile away. I have had several remote starts in the past and I always had a problem with the range. I have either had to be in a "line of site," or just close. 1/4 mile or less. It's nice to be at the movie theator and just before the movie ends .Start the truck and it's nice and warm to come out to. Mine will also show on the remote if the truck has started so I don't set there wondering. Also don't expect to improve your MPG's when it does idleing for 20-25 minutes. The positive side of this is never scraping a window when it's cold out!!! I don't have a garage for my ride. TJ
