Great post^!!!
Well, not much to update. Up to 150km on 1/3 a tank so It looks like im back up to around 400 a tank. Im up at least 50km to my last tank of reg. This is defently worth it!!
Also, the truck runs better

I run 90 in my 4runner
Up here in Canada, 90 is the lowest Mowhawk and Husky sell, its goes for the same price as the 87 as Chevron/Shell etc. I dont really buy gas anywhere besides those two just because of it.

It is a fact: unless your car recommends 91 or higher, or requires it, the added MPG will never offset the price difference from burining premium over regular.
I've filled my 4Runner up with premium(well, in Cali, it's only 91) a couple times, and I've got 290 Miles on a tank ful. I spent $59.00 on 16 gallons@$3.69/gal. Next fill up driving a nearly identical routine, I got 280 on a tank full(280 is not the best, but it is fairly average for what I get) I spent $55.50 on 16 gallons@ $3.49/gal. The extra 10 miles on a tank was nice, but the extra $4 will not be gotten back by those gains.
I've figured that my 4Runner costs roughly 18 cents per mile for regular(that's @3.49 /gal, and 18MPG average) , and 20.5 cents per mile for premium.(@ 3.69/gal and 18MPG average)
If you are looking to save money, DON'T BUY PREMIUM. If you are looking for a little more pep, a very small MPG increase, and better throttle response, then get mid grade or premium.
I did this when gas was a little more, it's around $3.19 now. For the most part, around here, the difference between 87, and 91 octane is almost always 20 cents. If the gap is more, then you might loose even more money by burning premium.

Mmm, lot's of misconceptions floating around here.
- You should always use the lowest octane fuel that you can.
- Higher octane gas doesn't have more power and it doesn't (in and of itself) supply more power.
- Higher octane gas simply burns slower and can cause more deposits (using a higher octane than the recommended octane).
- Higher octane will not provide better fuel mileage (higher than what's required/recommended). If you do get better mileage, than something else is going on. Octane and fuel mileage generally have a reverse relationship.
- You can't judge mileage simply on one tank of gas, much less 1/4 tank or anything similarly as silly.
- All top tier gasolines contain ca 10% ethanol.
- Top tier gasoline is "better" for most engines, though simply due to detergents that are mandated for top tier gasolines. This doesn't mean that other gasolines don't contain the same detergents.

[QUOTE=Matt16;50697848]Off topic a bit, but I am surprised you are getting that good milage with a 3VZE. I have a 22RE 4Runner and also live in the Lower Mainland only get about 410km to a tank (with 87).

410kms to a tank!!!! i get 100kms to every quarter of a tank and thats in town!!!!! and i can get around 150-200kms on the highway per quarter of a tank! i have had 563kms on the highway before the light even goes on! and i have never had pinging and i just fill-up with whats available(87-97octane)!
AND NOW I GET EVEN MORE MPG's SINCE I REMOVED THE CAT. AND THE MUFFLER!?!?!?!

I have 4.10s/22RE/31's and I spend a lot of time in 1st and 2nd in town and 3rd and 4th on the highway. Fifth is only used when practically coasting. I live in a hilly area and that I'm sure has something to do with it. My cat is not plugged as I previously thought, at least looking from the upstream end it isnt.

You might want to replace the cat/cat back soon, hopfally free up a pony or two. I have noticed more of a difference in mpg since I have unhooked my EGR.
