Rear drum backing plate removal and sourcing question

I have a 88 pickup, 22re engine. I'm in the middle of the lspv upgrade to a bpv and noticed my rear drum backing plates are crap - they are falling apart and need replacement. I looked in the FSM and not feeling the love on how to replace. Also is there a better source for these other that the dealer? My boneyards are picked clean of Toys.

Thanks for the time -

IIRC, you'll have to remove the wheel bearing/retainer to replace the backing plate.

Look for some out of the southwest or California

I did get 2 sets from Daves a while back any in this neck of the woods are pretty bad

I am not sure if you can even get some from the dealer any more

Dealer will most likely have them. Everything needs to come apart, all the way down to the wheel bearing retainer. This would be a great time to do a rear disk upgrade. I found the TG rear disk conversion and sky TC ebrake to be cheaper than all new drum and brake parts on my build. Sky ebrake is only good for passing inspection in my opinion.
