Quick Question about gears

Quick Question about gears
Hi all I have (a 2wd for now) '87 pickup that had a W46 (4 speed) before I swapped in a W55 (I know not a 4wd transmission.. not yet anyways). The gearing in the rear axle (8") is still 3.09.
I got lucky and scored either an '81 (3.90 gearing) or '82 (4.10 gearing) solid front axle. Is it possible to swap the ring and pinion from my front axle to the rear axle? (Both are 8" axles)
Also if anybody knows, what are the ring and pinion gears that came from the factory paired with the W55?
