did you set the carrier bearing preload correctly?
are all your clearances with in spec per the directions? (for the aussie warranty you need 0.145"-0.178" on the center gap between the couplers)

forget to put in the thrust washers on the spider gears?

Checked the clearance between the shaft, I got 0.007", spec says 0.006-.016:

I followed one of Zuk's write up at gearinstalls.com to do mine...
there are a ton of things that can go wrong.

I've never touched mine so I don't know...

But I would suspect it gets hot... That's why a diff has a breather...

Heat also says "oil" to me... Not necessarily an improperly set-up Aussie locker...

As far as I know, if you match marked and or put everything back together the EXACT way it came apart, it's right...

Someone needs to go take theirs for a ride... I'd love to, but I don't have any brakes...

And I've already had one fender bender... Knocked my parts truck off its blocks...

How redneck is that?

Ok I pulled a 3rd with 4.88's and the locker already installed in it...this was a professionals install...

I took the pulled on and removed the 4.88 ring used the same housing and swaped it into my 4.10's 3rd...

The car runs and drives fine just warm on the diff concerned me...

Is heat on a diff bad its not on fire warm to touch on the highway at high speeds it heats up more...

Tell me what you think???

so if im reading this right, you pulled the 3rd with the locker installed, put your old 3rd back in, and drove it and the diff is hot again?

I pulled an 3rd from a junk yard it had 4.88 with an aussie inside of it...

I then took the 4.88 ring off left the locker in its housing then put my 4.10 ring around it...

and installed the diff complete...

now the diff run a little hott I may just be paranoid...its not supper on fire or anything but a little hot to touch will not burn your hand i'm just woried because I didnt check backlash but Write up and instructions from AUSSIE and ZUK do not really mention the backlash aspect in the Install...

The truck runs great on and off road...no noises or anything like that...I just installed it last monday...

I just do not want to Blow my REAR up

PLEASE PLEASE let me know...

They do get warm. Even an open diff feels warm after driving.

you might have one of your preloads over tight. did you use any assembly lube when you put things back together? how's the oil?

did you check the bearings on the old 3rd? did you use your bearing races with it's bearings?
