I know it can't be placed backwards...I was just wondering about the key. I have a pulley holder to stop the pulley from turning as I re-remove the nut. Then I should be able to see if the key is missing, right??? And then can I just purchase a new key and install it???

So what it sounds like is either you sheared off the key or it is missing all together so when you turn the wheel, the pulley slips on the shaft and grabs everyonce in a while so that is why the wheel jerks. If you never took the pulley off then you sheared the key and there is to much damage to just replace the key most likely, you will have to tuff it out without PS until you have money for a new pump.

Check junkyards for keys, pick up full pump from junkyard for parts.

Wink

I have never seen a woodruff key shear off I guess it is possible I have had pump bearings seize but most often the belt just slips to it burns off.

If that is the case and the pump is seized it is kind of a moot point .
