I purchased a 95 Runner a week or so ago and have just gotten it on the road today after a few emissions issues and a new idler arm. Anyway the antenea hasn't worked for sometime now apperently, and you can hear the motor running(antenea motor) after engine shut off. It was usually just a low hum type noise but today it nearly rattled the front fender off, is there an easy disconnect or fix for this situation? I deally I'd like to have it working properly but I can live without the antenea if I have too.

why not just grab it and yank it up and reach in the fender well and dissconnect the power so its permanently up? Thats what i did. Maybe hit up pull apart for a new to you manual antenna or maybe a straight antenna that will bolt up?

 

Most likely the white nylon stalk of the antenna has broken. The repair is quite easy. You unscrew the nut at the base of the antenna. Have someone turn on the radio while you lightly pull the antenna out of its tubing. compare the old antenna with the new to see how much of the white nylon stalk may still be in the motor housing. If it is only a short piece it should not pose a problem. If it is the majority of the white nylon stalk you will most likely have to remove the motor from the fender and disassemble it to get the old piece out. This possibility is unlikely. If you have some, coat the white nylon stalk with some white lithium grease. Take the new antenna and putting the notches toward the rear of the vehicle have someone turn on the radio. Let the motor run until it stops (it may keep running). Regardless, have the helper turn off the radio while you are guiding the stalk and antenna into the motor. screw the nut back on and you should be fine. Good luck. I meant to add, the antenna part number in 2006 was 86337-35111. You can get it at your Toyota dealer or on line at ebay or the like.

 

I just realized that your 4Runner is a 1995. As a result the P/N I gave you might not be correct. The 1995 4Runner is a generation two 4Runner. I gave you the part number for a generation three 4Runner. The process for change out remains the same. Another thing, when you remove the ferrel nut at the antenna base the antenna should not drop or move. If the antenna drops than the spot weld for the motor bracket has broken. To fix you would need to remove the fender plastic lining. This likewise is not a big deal. Good Luck.

 

Take the antenna, yank it up, if its a power antenna, spray some wd-40, on it and see if it works, if it doesent, just leave it up, Thats what I did.

 

You could unplug the power to the antenna motor. Replacing the antenna mast is easy as well:

When I remove the ferrel nut the metal housing the antenea sits in drops down into the fender, not completely but probably half way..I guess the weld is broken, hoping I can rig up some type of clamp to hold it in place.

 

Mine is cut at the wire. I just shove it down when I'm on the trail and pull it back up when I'm done. 0.02

 

If you find the spot weld is broken you can remove the bracket and drill a hole in it, than place it over the original location, make a mark and drill a small hole in the inner body panel. Put a stop on the drill to prevent you from going too deep. Also, remove the right interior passdenger side kick panel so you can see the area and make sure the drill is not going to hit or damage any wiring or component. Than simply use a sheet metal screw to remount the bracket. A nut and bolt would be better but will probable be to difficult to get the nut on the inside. Finally put a dab of silicone over the inner end of the screw to make it air and water tight. You could also put silicone on the outside and drive your screw through it which should seal the hole as well. Good Luck.

 

I haven't yet had the time to open the fender well and look at the motor but it has stopped vibrating now and is back to hummimg when the radio is turned and the antenea should be lowering. Next time it starts rattling though I'll know what to do.
