Post-Lift Suspension

I have a '97 4Runner that I bought with a 2.5" spacer lift. I was reading the other day and saw that it's recommended that when installing the spacers on top of the coils, you should also move to different struts. So my question is, if I'm not using OEM parts, how do I know what springs/struts to put on the truck?

I ran that set up for a year with my stock struts with no problems. I just sold my old set up a few days ago because it was still fine, just not as good as my OME set up now (I sold the 2 front stock strut assemblies with the 2.5" spacers installed and threw in the rear spacers too).
