Possible to contain messy oil leak?
I'm guessing it's my front main leaking, oil is getting all over. I can't get to it for a while because I'm still just learning about it, but while I was under there today i got thinking maybe i can wrap some kind of sponge strip around that area with some duct tape or strapping to absorb the leakage for now? Can that be done or is it to hot/hazardous there to mess around like that?
I was also wondering then whether an external seam application of some kind of silicone doesn't temporariiy contain some accessible leaks sometimes until they get properly dealt with.

Try not to let it go too long, the po on my truck let the leak go for years and really I think the only way I can ever get it all is when I pull the motor and rebuild. It was the front pan seal and it was getting on the crank and misting/flinging everywhere.

do it soon. it's not that difficult. you don't need to do a rebuild to get to it. i had to do mine not too long ago, and all i did was pull the belts, pull the main pulley, and pop out the old seal. installation is reversed. you'll need maybe 5 tools, a few rags, and some gloves will help
