Parts for timing belt replacement
Hi all, I did a search and came up with tips, but no parts list.
I have a 99 with 130,000 on it. The timing belt has never been replaced. The water pump is leaking a little now, and I am going to replace everything coming up. I ordered the belt, water pump, accessory belts, and spark plugs.
Are there any other parts I might need? I have ability to make special tools and such, and will be picking up some coolant. What about sealant? Would Permatex Black RTV be ok, or do I need Toyota sealant for the water pump?
Thanks for the help, also any words of encouragement are appreciated. Have done a lot of work on vehicles, but never encountered a timing belt. I did download the 4x4wire instructions and think that will be of a huge help.
Thanks

This is what I replaced when I did my 2002 4Runner Timing belt. There are also the tensioner and idler pulleys that should be replaced if the bearings are bad, but unless you suspect they are bad because of noise, you won't know what shape they are in until you get in there and tear down the engine. Chances are, they would still be OK, but just keep it in mind. They are pretty expensive items to be buying "just in case".
Timing Belt
Water Pump
Thermostat
Thermostat gasket (comes with the water pump, so you don't have to order it separately)
PS Belt
AC Belt
Alternator Belt
Top Rad Hose
Bottom Rad Hose
You don't need any gasket maker to do the timing belt on the 3.4L. The water pump comes with a high quality gasket made of a combination of metal and rubber. Just make sure that you clean the sealing surface on the engine well. It is quite an easy job when compared to the timing belt replacement on the 3.0L, actually.

Hey guys, thanks for the help. I got it done yesterday and everything turned out really nice. A special thanks to NutHuts96 for giving me tips via PM.
When I set everything up to take her down timing wise, I think I found that one of the cams were one tooth off. I lined everything back up and put the new belt on and the truck runs much smoother than it did. I bought it at 65K and it has always had a vibration at idle to about 2K rpm. Very slight, but nowhere near as smooth as it is now. I replaced the tensioner just because I talked to someone that said sometimes once they are compressed they lose the ability to maintain tension and go bad. It was cheap insurance at 30 bucks. Everything was Toyota Parts. New TB, water pump with the new type gasket, thermostat, accessory belts, and Toyota antifreeze. The inside of the coolant passages were just like new. I had replaced the coolant at 70K with Toyota. Man that stuff is expensive. My waterpump was leaking for a while. I was surprised to find that it was the gasket that failed, not the pump. It had a recessed oring gasket that dried out and cracked, allowing small amounts of coolant to seep out. I have been adding about a pint of water at every oil change, so it wasn't reall bad and probably would not have gotten worse. I feel like I have a new vehicle now.
I also replaced the plugs today to finish off the job. I think I will change the rear diff lube too. It has never towed anything so should be fine.
This is my wifes previous vehicle. We bought her an 07 Runner she absolutely loves. I told her when I started talking her into a new vehicle so I could have this one to pick out what she wanted. She did, another Runner. They are great vehicles.
Thanks again.
