Is it okay?

Hey guys, I just back from playin in the mud with my friends and since i've got the biggest engine, I was the tow truck. My buddy got stuck in his Ford and so I was pulling him out. Everything was all good but it took quite a while. I finally got him out and while I was pulling I noticed that I was getting close to red-lining. I would stop at abut 5k RPM and start again. So I finally got him out and drove home amd walking past my engine I heard my coolant boiling. I'm almost positive it's coming from the reservoir because the ford's was too. It's too dark too definitely see it but I was wondering if that is going to pose a problem? I am thinking that I just need to empty out my reservoir and clean and refill it. Is there anything else I should take into consideration?

Your coolant's probably tired...flush it out with distilled water and put some fresh Toyota red in it.

How much does the red cost? I wouldn't really care but I litterally flushed my coolant 6 days ago. . . . And is it something that I can get from the dealer? I've got a Napa and only a Napa in my town and I have never seen anything that says Toyota on it.

New coolant shouldn't boil like that under normal circumstances. Where was the temp gauge? Radiator clogged with mud maybe?

The temp gauage was right in the middle, where it always is. What do you mean by "radiator clogged with mud?" Like mud packed around it or what?

Toyota red can be purchased online or any any Toyota dealership. Its between $25-$30 for a gallon.
Having just changed the coolant is probably why it boiled. Any of a few reasons- didnt get all the air out; didnt mix it correctly; or didnt get the mixture to the right ratio; flushing it could have knocked a clog loose and cause a leak somewhere unseen (HG??). It needs to be AT LEAST 50/50 DISTILLED water and anti-freeze. Living in Cali, I would mix it to 60-65% anti-freeze, and the corresponding about of water. Anti-freeze not only lowers the freezing point of water, but also increases the boiling point.

That makes sense, Thanks! Unfortanetly, i'm out of money for a couple weeks, am I going to be okay with the coolant tired/burnt. I'm sure it's fine seeing how I drove with bad coolant for quite a while and it didn't seem to harm anything, except two of my sensors haha. I'm going to check the reservoir tomorrow because like I said, it sounded like it was coming from there. I have still got a little green left so maybe i'll just flush the reservoir and fill it with that for the time being.

And besides mud flying everywhere, the drive home was normal. Nothing out of the oridnary like steam, odd sounds, smoke out of the exhaust or a higher temp happened so it sounds okay to me (however I could be wrong).

It should be okay, but I'd check it out before any more hard work. Growing up around big turbo diesel engines, and mil vehicles, I always give mine about a full two minute cool-down after long drives, long climbs, or low speed hard work. Mine goes over 1/3 on the temp gauge and I start to worry. Yeah, its kinda weird. But when you shut off a very hot engine, you get all these very hot parts that are cooling without any air/oil/water flow. Bad, I've always been told.
