Oil Filter Relocation Kit

I have dumped oil all over the engine for the last time during an oil change. For all the right that Toyota did it sure was stupid to put the oil filter upside down. I would like to install an oil filter relocate kit so that I can get the filter open end pointed up so that you can change without having to dump oil on the engine and I would like to be able to run a larger filter than the stock teacup. Has anyone installed one of these relocation kits? and if so where? Did you go with a bigger filter?

I run one on my Harley and with the extra line length it gives about an extra 1/2 quart of oil which amounts to running a bit cooler and I can add a bigger filter so I get an extra quart total again helps with cooling so I don't see why you can't do the same to your truck motor no matter if it's a 22 or 3.0

Just use some brake cleaner and clean it up.

Much cheaper than buying parts to relocate the filter.... to WHERE? 'taint' no space to put it.

Do a 1" body lift to make changing the filter easier. Mine is easy to change, although I still manage to get some on my hand, and unknowingly scratch myself only to find out about it many hours later......

if you take an awl, scribe, punch, or even a sharp scewdriver and poke a hole in the bottom of the filter. all of the oil will drain out of then when you remove it voila, no mess. just a thought

If you choose to do this, here are a couple of caveats.

One: space is at a premium, so finding a place for the relocated filter can be an issue. I put mine in the driver's side wheel well, as forward as I could get it. It is on an angle, but is far easier to access, and easier to catch the little that will spill. Tire clearance has never been an issue.

Two: I have only seen a couple of kits out there for this job. I got as Perma-Cool kit through Performance Products. DO NOT USE THE SUPPLIED HOSES AND FITTINGS!!! Take it from someone who's already been there, they are sure to fail you, and turn your engine into a four hundred pound paperweight. (The plus side is that it gave me a GREAT excuse to drop in a 3.4!) Replace the hoses and fittings in the kit with full on hydraulic hoses and fittings. I got mine at Struble in Denver, just south of Evans on South Platte. I have had no problems with this set up on my 3.4.
