No solid axle?

Did Toyota make a non solid axle version of their 1985 4Runner?

That would be years 1986-1989.

I found someone local here that has the ugliest 4Runner you've ever seen... I'd have it immediately lifted, and painted.

But they claim it's a 1985, but not a solid axle. Maybe they just don't know? I think it's weird and I would normally look the other way because it's hideous (white with blue and pink pinstriping) and bone stock, but it only has 81,000 miles on it and it's pretty cheap!!! Might be worth checking out...

Check the door jam sticker, it should tell you the year.

This is the response from the seller (4 hours after I texted him):

I have a picture of the front end of the 4runner there's no solid axle no leaf-springs hence it's not a solid axle

He still hasn't sent me the photo he speaks of. I asked him for a photo of the door sticker, but haven't gotten that either.

Without pictures it might as well be BIGFOOT.

And if I were you I'd delete your less than brilliant thread on Pirate. Not the place to ask such newb questions.

I've already taken measures on that Brian... but let me ask you this then. If I can't ask questions on a message board to learn things, where am I supposed to ask them? If everyone on the board is so knowledgeable, and know the answers to everything, why would they bother posting questions if they're so freakin' smart and should already know the answers to their own question? Isn't a board for learning?

It's upsetting that my questions cause so much turmoil... how do you propose I answer them? Or is that another dumb question in itself?

Knowledge comes from asking questions but if rudimentary you have to be willing to pay the price of knowledge.

Wisdom comes when you learn to answer your own questions.

You are asking a question that is well documented. I simple google search or any type of research would have given you the answer you were looking for.

Usually making a new thread is a result of relentless searching/research when you can not find the answer you are looking for.

^ True, most questions can be answered by good ole searching, especially simple questions regarding years and models of pickups and 4runners. It is well known that Toyota made SA trucks until 1985 for the U.S. anything after is IFS, the MFG date may say something like Oct.1985 but that is a 1986 model, unless the title says 1985, they have no clue what they are talking about, if the title says 1985, then it is a non original frame and drivetrain to that body, which means that the low mileage is probably not actually low at all on the things that matter.
