Thumbs up Newguy/new project (pics)

I have been reading your forums for some time now, and i recently joined. this is my first post, and i would like to introduce myself and describe my rig. Im jake from St. Pete Florida. I own a 88' single cab pickup 3.0 5spd 4x4. I traded an old jet ski for it and towed it home in the begining of october. The previous owner sucked water into the intake and exploded the block. Truck came with a good replacement motor trans and transfer case. Im currently in the process of replacing the gaskets in the good motor, and just purchased a new clutch. Hopefully the truck will be good to go in a week. I also have an axle from a 85' 4runner to put in after i break something in the IFS. I plan to have a thread for the build up of this truck, and look forward to some good offroad pics and videos from me. Here are some pics of how my truck looked when i got it, and a group that i go out with.

I pulled so much trash out of the bed when i unloaded it

The holes in the engine block

The daily driver

Typical offroad group

My girlfriend's uncle's truck (GreenMachine)

My gf's uncle sells these and him driving... If you want more just say so, and i'll make a new thread for the pictures

you'll hate me if you knew how much i had into the jetski that i traded straight up for. let me just show you what the ski looked like, granted it did have a new trailer under it, but it only cost me $300 out of my pocket, and a $20 starter solenoid to get it fired up.

One of them is a Unimog, the other 3 are Pinzgauers though.
I love those little buggers, just good luck getting parts

The 6x6's remind me of centipedes.

But back on topic, nice rig, you got a hell of a trade.

Thats the thing, he likes to keep his sales local because he works on them out of his auto reapair shop and i havent heard him complain about parts for his trucks. They are a pretty solid foundation and if the drivetrain has its scheduled maintenance then problems should be minimal. Average price for the Pinz is $16.5k and he told me $10k for a mog. After the yota, a unimog will be in my garage. Need a bigger truck for towing it first also, but then again he tows with his suburban. Runnerup i believe we will go out the weekend after thanksgiving. Dont know if Richloam or River Ranch, i'll keep you posted if you want to join.

the bed does have rust. At the seams of the body panels, there is some but its not that bad. I was thinking about sanding it down and Line-x it. But the cab forward is really clean, i buffed a section on it and looks brand new.

Its good to a another Florida based Yota person. Are you located near Tampa? Good luck on the build up. Give me a shout if you need any local help doing something on your rig. Oh yeah the Greenmachine (the Unimog) is sick. I have wheeled with it and saw it pull a very stuck military duece and half out of the mud, no sweat. The Pinzgauers are cute but are (under)powered by an air-cooled four cylinder and they have no flex. But they do look cool.

You should consider a 3.4 V6 swap (for later on since you already have another 3.0 to put in). You'd have tons of power with the same or better gas mileage.

i have an 89 mustang that i have an extra motor for in the machine shop. So if i do decided to go crazy, the 5.0 will be used. But i want a 5spd behind it. I havent really researched the motor swaps yet.

The great thing about the 3.4 swap is that it uses the same motor mounts and bolts right in for the most part.
