newbie with lift questions
Hi im a newbie here. I got a 2003 4x4 tacoma with all packages. v6 3.4L and so on. i am looking for a 6 in lift with 33's bfg mud terrian tires. my question is:
1. can i put 33's on 15x10.5 wheels on my truck?
2. looking at the fabtech suspension 3.5 lift but not sure what body lift to get. any suggestions???
3. what type of gearing do i need to get with bigger tires or do i even need to change the gearing.

The best way is to search the forums.
you will get all kinds of answers other wise.
but to answer yours:
yes you should be able to check with tire shop if unsure
the one with the quality brackets to line the bumpers and what not back up
you should gear it to keep it in the sweet spot, find a gearing calculator, search here or google it.

Ummm - reggie 00, this is the newbie forum - either provide real help or keep quiet.

1. I don't think the brake calipers will allow 15" rims. I assume you are thinking about 33x12.50, which would fit nicely on 10" wide rims. You should consider, however, 33x10.50 (on 7" or 8" wide rims) - all the traction and ground clearance with MUCH fewer fitment issues. The difference in sand flotation will be hardly noticeable.
2. I assume you're talking aout Fabtech coilovers - not the Fabtech bracket lift (which is 6" lift). You don't need a body lift with the coilovers for 33x10.50. www.4crawler.com for the best Toyota body lifts out there.
3. You don't NEED new gearing, but there will be a noticeable loss of power with the bigger tires. For 33's with the 3.4L, I would suggest 4.56 for manual tranny and 4.88 (or even 5.29) with an automatic.

And What was so wrong with what i stated??
I do not have an 03 and it sounds like you dont know for sure either, hence the GO ask a tire shop comment, but a 33 will fit on that rim.
dont assume (you know why) He asked about Body lifts, i am sure he has his reasons for why he wants it. I was just stating the cheap ones either do not come with or have cheesey brackets to move the bumpers ect.
No one needs to gear anything, it will obviously still roll down the road. But from the factory it is matched right? so if he went bigger it would not match right? so it would be a good idea to regear. but thats what you said any way huh?
If i happen to over step my bounds on a subject do me the favor of a pm instead of publicly calling me in so many words an idiot.

easy there. when the poster creates a thread in the newb section, you cannot tell him to search. sometimes it is hard to tell because the post may start in the regular forum, but then gets moved into the newb forum by one of the mods. but yes, if its in newb land, dont tell the poster to search without being helpful. for example, you can say "try looking at these links and search these terms". something like that is perfectly acceptable

Sorry if it sounded like i meant just go search have fun. All i meant by it is alot of people will have different opinions on your questions and you might benifit by looking around to see the most popular answers.

Remember this is just a general idea. The packages the truck has and what was done @ dealership/ PO will play a factor.
You can try the old method of marking tire and driveline and rotating to get ratio.
It could be on the info tag in the driver door or G box.

We all start somewhere.
Just make sure you do your own homework to. what worked for one not always works for another. and not everyone is a systems expert, some are close in here though. I have lots to learn.

Would place fair to large sums of money you have 4.10's then. One of the guys in our TTORA chapter has a manual TRD running 35's (6" fabtech bracket lift), and it's OK on the road, but he has to work the clutch A LOT off road.
Note that your rear gears are the same 8" as the "pre Tacoma" trucks. This article may help you out:

They didn't make Tacomas in 94 ... 95.5 is the first year. You have a "preTacoma", sometimes called a Hilux in the states, but officially they are "compact truck".
Lifts for 2WD come down to BJ spacers or lift spindles for the front. The rear is leafs, so a lot of options there (although they are spring under IIRC).
Your best bet for your budget is a body lift. Check out www.4crawler.com
