Question Newbie Help for 98 Taco lift

Aloha Yotatechers,

I need some help lifting my Tacoma.

before I get massive flames for doing a body lift, just let me say the only reason I'm doing a body lift is because my Toytec Ultimate lift with Bilstein adjustable 5100's and new OME DAKAR leaf springs are on back order...
http://www.toyteclifts.com/index.php...mart&Itemid=72

and thanks to Bilstein not having there act together, it could take months to get them in... if ever.
So while I wait, I want a 2" body lift so I can get my 32 x 11.50's to fit.
Then when Bilstein produces my Shocks and I add my suspension lift I'll have about 5" of total lift

That said....

I need to get some opinions on what's the best 2" body lift kit out there for my 98 Taco. I've heard horror stories about the spacers popping right through the cab and cab's being torn off the mounts....
I'd like to avoid that, that's where you come in.

What's the best, toughest most durable, 2" body lift out there.

Second question... how hard and complicated is it to do a body lift... Kit's out here are around $150- $200... but the instal is $450 - $600!!!...

The problem is I'm really cheap.. and I'm NOT a mechanic.. I've done some basic work but I'm NO mechanic, don't have a lot of tools... I can buy tools, I'm willing to try, but I thought it was basically putting 6 spacers on body mount bolts...

but if I have to lift the engine, steering and do all other kinds of crazy stuff, I don't think it's gonna happen. So is a body lift kinda of straight forward, or is it a very difficult and complicated job? (for a newbie)

I'd like to give it a try... think I should do it? or should I suck it up and pay $450 for an install?

A friend of mine did his own lift years ago and he did a crapy job. You will run into problems when you need to extend or fabricate your shifter. On a BL, the steering has to be extended. The 4x4 shop that did my 3" BL said it was easier to do my 4" suspention lift.

I paid $375 labor for the BL and the guy lost money cause it took em 7 hours. Another 4x4 shop quoted me $800 labor for the BL. I would definatley let the Pro's handle it. They did a great job on mine but I bet they wont do it for $375 anymore. I think my lift was $160.00 for the parts.

ya know, I could be wrong, Your looking to doa 2". that might not need as much work as mine did. Im sure others will chime in.

I would much rather get a kit from you...

Hey I should probably ask you... and any one else who wants to chime in... about the suspension lift as well...

I really want Bilstein 5100 shocks for my Taco... (Just like Barney heheh)...
but the guy at 4 Wheel Parts Hawaii said they didn't make them for a 98 Taco...

Then I found them at WheelersOffRoad.com and Toyteclifts.com....
I was totally in love with the idea of getting new shocks that also gave me the lift I want. Suspension lift better than a spacer lift IMO.

The problem like I've stated is EVERYONE is out of Bilstein 5100's for 95-04 Taco's... and there is NO ETA on them...

When I told 4Wheel Parts Bilstein DID make 5100's for the 95-04 Taco, they called Bilstein and said that Bilstein makes them specifically for RCD... and that everyone else gets them through RCD... so it's kind of a low priority for Bilstein to make more 5100's for them...even though there is apparently a BIG number of people that have them on back order

so if there are any other adjustable height struts out there 'like the Bilstein 5100's' or similar options to the Toytec coilover lift, then I'm open to hearing about them.

I though about the OME with 881's.... and I also thought about the Rancho Quick Lift... but I'd definitely rather have Bilsteins.

if they're better options in the same price range... I'd sure like to know about them.

National BackOrder on Bilstein shocks...everywhere on just about every type.

Should have them back in stock in a couple weeks so I've been told.
