If your going to replace the exhaust, get a header and a new cat and have it installed. Do a search for high flow cats, there are many available that will work on our vehicles.

I had a Magnaflow 13" muffler. Came on the LCE exhaust. Sucked. Unless you like loud. But since you don't, I swapped out to a flowmaster 50 suv and I am much happier.

So now. LCE header (love it) High flow cat from LCE (magnaflow high flow cat with flanges welded on, works great) And had a local shop hack out that crap magnaflow and install a Flomaster 50 suv.

Although I have heard magnaflow 18's are alot quieter, I have no experiences with them.

I still ended up welding all the slip joints from the LCE stuff. Just get a header, magnaflow high flow cat, and have a shop weld you up the cat back.

the super 44 will be loud, i would get like a magnaflow or borla, remember bigger the muffler quieter it is. and if you have a 22re you may have a o2 sensor after the cat which means a high flow cat may burn that 02, thats just what ive heard though.

Do an Advanced Search for "exhaust" and "muffler" and narrow it down to the section for your year model.

You'll find a TON of threads.

Everyone might think I'm crazy, but I'm going to run a stock header (22RE) with a downpipe/collector from a 22R. The downpipe/collector on the 22R looks far more efficient, I picked it up at a junkyard for $10. Check out the difference:

I already have 2 1/4" pipe from the cat all the way out, and a magnaflow high flow cat and muffler. I'm thinking that this combination will compare very closely to a LCE header or similar. I'm going to dyno it when I'm done, will have a thread on that soon hopefully if my machinist ever gets my engine done....

Nice! How do you like it? The collector looks like it was fabricated much smoother than the 22RE's. My bet is that it helps out the low to mid range power just a tad compared to the stock 22RE downpipe.

My goal is to run 2" pipe from the collector to cat, then from the high flow cat 2 1/4" to the muffler out.

What's you're exhaust set up from the cat out? 2 1/4" as well?? What cat and muffler and how do you like it?

I have never seen this setup ran, but i'm going to try it out

Edit: Jason's got me thinking now about what magnaflow muffler I have I'll take a look in the AM

It's always tough to really explain the sound output on my exhaust. I have a enormous exhaust thread on this website on the 3vze. If you want the link, I can get it for you. but even with my exhaust, I can hold a conversation in my truck. Its a very "selectable" sound. a lot of people ask what I mean by "selectable"... well. it only roars through the power band. ( anything after 3k rpms ) I shift before 3k when im daily driving. so it sounds like a basic normal 4runner with a bit more of a rumble/tone. no one would ever expect me to be running headers, a test pipe, borla turbo muffler, and 2.25 piping. I need to make more videos, as these are old. but heres a two.

Heres it idling and 1-5k revs.

This is FULL throttle... as in shifting at 4.9k-5k rpms. You can hear my truck idling... its about 10-15 feet away. you can hear me run to the truck

And heres the fly by.

Heres one just idling
