New Truck for build question?

New to forum. Looking to build either a Tacoma or Tundra. Currently leaning towards Tundra because of bed width. This is important when I need to drive my Yamaha Grizzly 660 into it and avoid the trailer hassle on long haul trips and then there's the accasional towing requirement.

Question is - like in the old days - when picking a truck?? - (hunting truck) to get me where few go... are there any rules or things I should consider like when choosing a certian year Tundra or Tacoma over another? An example would be - choose a 1987 yote pickup - and get solid axle - choose a 1988 yote and get IFS. Choose one year over another and maybe not have some suspension or engine mod available.

Wanted enough room for ATV in bed and still a little more room in cab so thinking extra-cab but also cognisant of wheelbase dynamic.

Want largest axle lift (tires) possible and long term would like lowest sitting SAS option. Tacoma vs Tundra question is based upon fuel consumption and upgrade option considerations. Looks like its a wash when I add an ARB, Warn, big mudders and all my gear.

Anyway - looking for year and model considerations? If you had to build a late model Tundra or Tacoma - which year and modle would you choose and why.

Slow roll.
Rock solid dependability
Tallest ground clearance (tires) with lowest COG
Winch... bumper, air for loads...

What's to consider.

i think you could fit it in a taco with no problems. id look based on your price range, but i think tacoma's are better (just my preference). they will get you better mpg, and probably last a little longer.

you wont be let down if you get the ifs either :]
