New Headlight bulbs?

So, I'm in desperate need of new headlight bulbs, but have been researching HID's and regular bulbs (specifically Silverstars). A couple posts I've read that Silverstars aren't really good, but two of my older brothers who both have '99 Runners have them and love em. I'd love to have HID's but I heard something about them being illegal (I live in Texas) due to the bulb length and refraction not being right and diffraction being everywhere. So that means I would nee a new housing right? I don't think I'm really up to that big a mod...I'm pretty new. Can someone help me out?

Silverstars are nice but they burn out way too fast. I got tired of having to drop $25 a pop every 2 months. I got some PIAA bulbs from www.autopartswarehouse.com for about $60 and so far I like them. If you get HIDs I recommend 4500k, the lower the k value, the brighter the light output.

Moved to the Newbie Tech Section.

Have you searched on this yet?

This topic has been beat to death on here and every other forum I've ever been on.

Do a search for the different bulb brands and types and see what you come up with - it's all over the place.

Mine have lasted over two years now. Not sure why some have issues with them, but I like mine and I'm in Alaska (much darkness is winter months).

The Silverstars I had years ago lasted 5x longer than the much more expensive PIAA's I had.

I would go Silverstar over the rest but like I said, do some searching and read up on others opinions of the various brands/types.

Good call on the Silverstars everyone. Mine are over a year old and going strong. Nice light output from a normal bulb. So much so that I doubt I'll ever be going the HID route.
