new 22re, $1,675

I need to rebuild my '85 22re, but i just don't have the time as i'm rebuilding everyone elses engines these days at work. I don't have much in the truck, and i am keeping the truck so i don't mind spending a little extra money on it. My engine has 303k and has never been rebuilt, so when i rebuilt it i was going to replace everything, and have it bored out, and the crankshaft turned. I calculated the parts & labor to come out at about $900. I was looking around online and i found a brand new long block with timing set & timing cover also, for $1,675(with a discount if bought through paypal, which i would do). It comes with steel chain guide, and metal head gasket. The engine is brand new, nothing rebuilt or reman'd in it. The block, crank, cyl head and everything are brand spanking new. I thought i could buy this engine, buy some new injectors & various sensors, and i would essentially have a brand new, not rebuilt 22re.

What are everyone's thoughts on spending this much money on an engine?

so youre saying someone cast a brand new 22re block? no. that motor is rebuilt too, just with new parts. and is way overpriced in my opinion.

I agree, about $4-500 overpriced. Unless it comes with a killer warranty, includes delivery and help with the install

You can build a heck of a lot nicer engine for that price. My $0.02.

Yeah but i don't really have the time to build one. I was just looking for options, i really want to be driving this truck right now. I may call in a favor on somebody with more time on their hands.

I just came across Japan Engines as well - you can buy a new shortblock from them for $1068.00 including shipping. but you have to have them deliver it to a business address. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...Q5fAccessories

I've dealt with this company when I rebuilt my engine, good company. I have their crank and rods in my engine. Slightly high on the price IMO for the entire engine, but the customer service is outstanding.

That might be worth it, if they have dyno proof, most of which don't. But it's also $325 more then the engine the O.P. had originally mentioned.

it is not a brand new block.... everything BUT the block is brand new...

i have looked into japanengine and heard good stuff.. 1300 for japanengines block shipped is not a bad deal. i almost went with that.. but i wanted to rebuild mine myself.. on their site they are 1300 with free shipping to a loading dock.. if you are local it is cheaper too... obviously.
