Ok so I have been looking around and thinking. I have a lot of plans for my 85 yota. One is I know I want to lift it more. I want to be able to run at least 44in tires. I have been looking and searching and I don’t know where to start. I would greatly appreciate If some of you guys would give me some ideas. I would like to stay away from trimming the fenders a lot.

You're going to need to get rid of your Toyota axles and swap in one ton axles from an old Chevy or Ford.

You're gunna have to lift it alot if you don't want to have to cut your fenders. Don't do it the red neck way that most people in FL lift theirs to achieve the lift lol look into sky manufacturing I believe it is that makes a kit for the one ton swap...not sure on that though

Your 22r engine is gunna hate you if you're trying to run 44's through a mud bog (I'm assuming you're wanting to make it into a mud truck since you live in Florida)

You'd be better off going with 40's and Longfield axles with about a 4-5" lift...either swapping in chevy springs in the rear and swapping your rear springs up front, making your own bastard leaf pack (search pirate4x4.com....just don't post this question over there, you won't get any help lol) or go with an already available kit from All Pro, Marlin Crawler, or Trail Gear

 

Ask yourself this: Why do you want 44" tires?

biggest I have ever seen on yota gear is 42's and thats pushing the breaking point

 

thanks for the info man i have been lookin around on the sites you gave me i am thinking about just running the yota axles for now and see how much they can take and i am going to look for swaping out my leaf springs with some chevy leaf springs.

 

what engine do u plan on dropping in theres no way trust me i have 35s and 5.29s and i still beg her for more.

Here's the deal - this ain't a fullsize domestic truck. 37's on the Toyota axles will have as good or better ground clearance than 44's on a Dana 60/14 bolt/etc and plenty of flotation for our relatively light trucks.

If you really NEED 44's for the type of wheeling you're gonna do, then you'll basically need a fullsize drivetrain - motor swap, tranny, tcase, axles - a lot of work for not much benefit IMHO.

you go bigger than a 37 on yota width axles, you're just asking to flop it. Not to mention break everything and have no power in the mean time.

 

agreed, the engine work, suspension work, re-enforcement, axle/gear work. not worth the benefit of the 44. you would be better off buying a winch to pull you out of a bog then dump all that money into some tires that are just going to snap your axles, then your dead in the mud. without a winch lol

 

well thats the plan this is a toy and i have the time.. i can get the money.. and the idea for this truck is to be a mud truck.. not much rocks in florida.. so i plan on putting a 302 HO down the road with 1 ton running gear. I know this little 22re can handle 44's i have seen guys down here running 46's on a 22re... probly not a stock 22re but its still one. I was just looking for a way to get a high suspension lift out of my 85 yota. any ideas?

 

Yep: easier way is to throw your '85 body on a chevy frame. Than you are done

i have a 89 sas with a built 355 small block chevy and th350 tranny on 44 tsl's its swamped alot evem with my very heavy foot all i have ever broke is a hub so yes toyota axles will hold 44s

if you want to play in the mud with 44s buy a k5 blazer or some old heavy chevy, toyota + 44 = waste of a good truck, i go through more with 38s locker front and rear then anybody else with 44s, just because you have a motor and tires doesnt mean your going farther

 

my brothers truck is a 92 pickup and its lifted 13 inches and has an lt1 in it. Even he doesnt run 44's. lol He has 41's but still. if your goal is to just have "44/s" on your truck. then you should of baught a full size and have a load of money to drop into it.

 

As far as mud goes, it also has alot to do with the Driver. I take my Stock '08 Tundra with bald tires through stuff I've seen guys on 35's and 44's get stuck in... of course I use the i-force to gain a little speed first...
