Need help fix rear axle gear seal leak
#2
It's commonly called a pinion seal. There's a good instructional on 4Crawler's site.

Thanks for your respond. And sorry, I may not make myself clear about the leak. The leak that I have is around the pan at the rear axle that have about 10 screw around it and I have no idea what it call. Sorry I not a mechanic, I just want to do it myself. Again thanks for your help.

You are going to have to pull the axles, which requires disassembly of the drums and disconnection of brake lines, including E-brake cable.
There are four bolts at each end of the housing. Once brakes are out of the way, remove nuts and slide out each inner axle respectively.
Then you can remove the 10 nuts and pull the diff. Clean both surfaces thoroughly. Be careful not to scrape or gouge anything, that will cause a leak.
I'd recommend getting the orange Toyota RTV to reseal the diff to the housing. You don't need a gasket. Also, get a pair of inner axle seals from the dealer or Marlin. It's a good time to change them.
If you have many miles on your vehicle, this is also a good time to change the axle bearings. Around $45 each from the dealer, and will require a press.... but there are other methods that will work.
Might as well plan on a brake job as well.
A Haynes manual available from most autoparts stores will walk you through most of the step, at least with the brake... which is probably going to be the most frustrating part of the whole job.
Of course... this is assuming the leak is not from diff cover damage or impact. If so, the above won't be of much help.
