Need Help! 91 4x4 3vze

ok heres my situation. i had trouble starting my truck a couple of days ago, my friend tuned up the idle position screw and fooled around with the EFI relay in the engine fusebox. It started up and i drove it to work the next day. That night pulled off the intake hose and the throttle body appeared to be very dirty. so i cleaned it out with carb out. then it ran like a champ. yesterday drove it to work and it ran smoothly.

When i went to start up my truck during the night to go somewhere it wouldnt start again and has been down since last night. my friend then suggested that i pick up a new EFI relay. picked it up and it still didnt start up.

-checked starter relay, doesnt seem to be the problem. but still not a guarentee
-engine cranks
-fuel pump turns on/ has fuel pressure
-Has spark
-truck almost starts, am able to hear some "put puts"
-just changed rotor/cap, wires, plugs
-Battery is good

anyone got any suggestions?? electrical? engine?

MUCH APPRECIATED!!! THANKYOU

Well, there's only three things - air (compression), fuel, and spark. The only thing you haven't checked is compression.

When you DO get it started, how does it run?

CEL on? Have you checked for codes?

Here is a link to the '93 FSM (yours is identical) - it will help.

k thanks "tc"

ok well my friend checked the truck out again and did a better test for spark... it had no & irradic spark. he recommended that its most likely my igniter and ignition coil. because everything else is in good shape. he also checked my distributor and everything looks good, considering i changed the cap, rotor, sparkplugs/wires about 4 months ago ( all genuine). i will keep this updated once i get the igniter. any other suggestions?

I would go with the ignitor/coil - mine went bad this summer, so it seems 14 yrs may be their life span...
