So I have a slow leak in my hydraulic clutch and today I ran out of fluid on a dirt road in a snowstorm. The only thing I had to put in the reservoir was 10W-40
motor oil. I know it calls for DOT 3 brake fluid, and under normal circumstances that's all i would have put in it. How much, if any, damage will the thicker fluid cause? Thanks for any advice!

Might be Ok if you flush the system well with isopropyl alcohol ASAP and refill with Dot 3.
Petroleum is bad news for all brake rubber.
If you already had problems though, might as well figure on replacing slave, master, and flex hose. Still need to flush the lines with alky.
