1985 Celica GT

I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place, if not, let me know. I recently bought my son his first car, 1985 Celica GT, I drove the car home from about 40 miles from home and the car ran amazing. We have done all new wheel bearings, shocks, struts, rotors, drums and brakes. While waiting on the parts for all that to come in, we changed all the fluids and change the distributor cap rotor button and installed new plugs and wires. Now when the car is started from a cold state, it will run great for about 3 to five minutes then will begin to run super rough. So much so if we don't feather the throttle it will die. I have removed the IAC and cleaned it, have checked for vac leaks and also re- checked the gap on all the plugs, if any one else has had this and knows the fix,,, I will be greatly indebted.

I had an 83 Celica and it was a 22r (carbed) was the 85 fuel injected? Also was the 85 still a 22R motor? This will help others that understand the 22R series better.

Red face

Some of these engines can be quite picky about plug wires I gave up on aftermarket wires ran only Toyota. Some off brand Caps and Rotors are junk as well.

Another thing are you sure all the wires are seated on the plugs correct The coil wire pushed in both ends tight.

Pretty much something you did unless it is just a fluke

Then if it sat long all the crap bounced loose on the drive home and clogged the fuel filter.

At one time I had a fleet of Celica`s I am down to two that might live again.

Plug wires are all seated well. New fuel filter installed. When started from a cold start it idles and runs super. As it starts to get warm it falls on its face. Have ruled out the engine coolant temp sensor, IAC and coil. We are looking into doing an EGR delete, but I need it in a good running state first. ( I guess. )

I am dealing with a similar issue. My truck runs great until it gets warm and then it loses power. Mine is the Cherry Manifold issue. >>>> https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...nifold-196774/ You getting similar symptoms?
