They can't weigh that much, I can pick one up and lug it around, and I'm about 155lb soaking wet hah. Maybe look at doing your clutch while you have everything apart?

Trans by itself...not bad at all....trans and tranfercase..alone...ballbreaker.
And I am he-man!! Without a trans jack. Almost masocist. (sp)

Lift smart. Take that advice from a dumb older guy who used his back too much doing stupid stuff.

Hi guys.My truck just passed inspection with no problems, so I'm probably going to buy a rebuild transmission from Highgear or from Marlin, not positive yet.

How much should I expect to pay to have the tranny (5sp, 22RE motor) installed? The mechanic who had agreed to do it bailed because he didn't want to mess with the possible complication induced by the transfer case.

Thanks,

Hi again. I bought the remanufactured transmission from Highgear. Theirs was about the same price as the Marlin, but the highgear warranty was better and covered shipping.

I've run the tranny for a couple weeks, and so far it seems great.

Now that the tranny is good, I want to replace the shifter bushing and seat with Marlin products but am having trouble finding a mechanic who will do it. The one who replaced the transmission refused to do it because he said it was too difficult, and he didn't want to "bitch up" the shifter platform.

A related question: Does anyone have a picture of exactly where the shifter bushing goes? How far above the ball? The marlin site has a nice video showing where the seat goes, but I'm not sure about the bushing.

Thanks,

Do it yourself. It's easy. Research on this forum or Marlins site.

Thanks for the suggestion rokblok. It looks like a simple job, but I've had two mechanics punt. The first is about 60 years old who specializes in VW, but he's old enough that he's done seat/socket changes for these old Toyotas before. He couldn't get the ring off and didn't want to break anything. The guy who replaced the transmission told the same story.

I'm thinking about taking it to the dealership, but I don't think they'd install non-Toyota parts.

As an update, the transmission from Highgear has given me no problems.
