Marlin doubler...crawler gear

Anyone have an idea why when I let off gas and either coast in N or coast with the clutch in I get a rattling noise? Almost like metal chattering? Sounds like it is consistant with each wheel turn.

u jionts berfields gears locker wheel bearing brakes etc. there are alot of moving parts that can do that. you will need to pin point the location and describe the the niose better.keep in mind that it is impossible to diagnose anything like this we can only recomend possible places to look.could be serious or could be some thing simple. i really recommend finding a competent person to check it out soon.

Front hubs are not locked. The drive shaft should spin freely by hand when parked right?
When in the cab it sounds like the noise is coming from directly under..maybe slightly back of where the seat is. I put it in Low gear 4wd yesterday and couldnt hear the noise. Ill have the truck available to pick apart this coming week as ill drive the ladies jeep to work. At slower speeds it sounds as if you have 2 pieces of smooth metal sliding against eachother..as if you were sheathing a samurai sword..with each wheel rotation.

The rear is a pull cable locker..which obviously isnt enagaged for 2wd..Weird.
After some research you have to trim the roll pin as well as the shifter fork for the low crawler gears..maybe one got trimmed too much and rattles.. Hell idk.

just added this to my thread:
"Just read this explanation by Lobukbuild and liked it so much that I am copying it here for future reference. Bonus his handle has a buk in it.
'your 4 to 1 gear ratio that you mentioned is an extra bonus. first your need to understand that on stock set ups the ratio for hi is 1:1 the ratio, and for lo is around 2.28:1. the 4:1 you have (probally actually 4.70:1) is twice as lo as the stock ratio. using the 4.70 gear in one case and a 2.28 in the other case gives you three ratio options to use. assuming the 2.28 is in the front case and 4.70 is in the rear, with the front shifted to lo 2.28 and rear in hi 1:1 your at normal lo ratio. shift the front to hi 1:1 and rear to lo 4.70 you are twice as lo . shift both cases into lo 2.28 and 4.70 combined and you will be three times lo = about 6.98:1 ratio. with regular shifters all of this would be in 4wd (for the most part), with the use of twin sticks on the rear case you would be able to shift the left lever into 2wd while using any of these ratios. this option would help make extreme tight turns and menuvers easier under some conditions for a more experienced driver. basically you have the kick a$$ set up that everyone druells over, with or with out twin sticks. learn to use it and use it well !!' Yes. But in regards to your noise, is it possible there is something going on with the brakes? Backing plate rubbing rotor? Brake shoe retainer spring come apart allowing the shoe to rub the drum? Rock stuck in between something and dragging? I'm apologize, I didn't read if you had 4wheel disc or backing plate eliminators, so I'm just throwing you ideas before you start disassembling everything....

Well the noise has been happening ever since the last owner had the truck. Just today my parking break light stayed on even when it wasnt engaged. The po said it did that occasionally but wiggling it will get it to stop. This worked a few times in the past couple days. But not now.

Gonna pop off the rear diff cover this weekend and have a peak. Seems like i can almost split it up into two issues now.. One happens at higher speeds...around 30-45+.. when I coast in N or with the clutch down its just like a rattling sound. The other is at slower speeds when coasting and it becomes a clanking noise. As soon as you get it in gear it goes away. I doubt I have the ability to pull and work on a t case..do idk where to go from here

hopefully its just a dry u jiont or some thing simple and minor to fix. its better to say "ah theres the problem, no biggy, ill fix that when it gets worse." than to say "omg that was the problem, wtf do i do now? its junk and i aint got 800 buks to spend on this thing!" nioses dont bother me as long as i know what they are and that its not going to cause more damage as it goes.
