Well the PO said it has done it since he has owned it which has been about 5 months or more. Said that the guy that originally built it had the problem ever since..like I said..claimed that something in the 4:1 case got trimmed too much and chatters when its not recieving power.

 

One more thing.. can I use 80w 90 in the axles? Also..what do you guys recommend for oil in the 22r...

 

i like castrol oil , i use 10 40 in my 22re. diff oil i like lucas and 80 90 is fine. some thing to try on your noise issue. when you hear the niose try putting a little pressure on each stick one at a time and see if the niose goes away.

i got another idea. you start driving north and ill start driving south, when we meat we can trade trucks and go home. no more noise to worry about. deal?

 

How about you drive south..stay at my new house.. ill throw up all the beer, pizza, donuts, call of duty, and other random sh** you can think of, and you diagnose my issue.

 

If those are Toy diffs you're gonna have a hell of a time popping the rear diff cover off....pulling the axles and removing the 3rd member is the only way to look at the gears...same goes for the front...

 

i was gonna let him figure that out on his own, lol. go to you tube and look up vidios on the case assembly and stuff. you will be amazed at the info that out there on you tube. very educating.

 

ps . i have seen axles cut out to fab an inspection cover. it was kinda cool.

 

That's so retarted. So how do you drain the fluid?
Pulling the diff cover won't revel the gears?

 

There are drain plugs on the bottom of the diffs. Much less messy than dealing with a cover and all the fluid coming out at once. But the downside is that to reveal the gears, the axles must be removed and the center section can be unbolted and removed. I believe it makes for a stronger set up personally.

Ford 9", Diamond brand, Toyota, etc. some of the strongest differentials around are the dropout design. There not just massive amounts of steel (Dana 70/80) that are ungodly heavy, but are quite stout for the size.

 

I guess ill drain em for the hell of it then. And the tranny fluid. Still need to buy an oil pan gasket and do that.
Dont have to drive it this week. Got the ladies vehicle.

 

Use Toyota FIPG(form in place gasket) or Permatex Ultra Black/Grey (oil resistant) silicone for the oil pan gasket. The FIPG is dealer item, the Permatex is available at any parts store.

 

agree no gasket. just clean and prep it good ,then use a quality sealer and snug it up, dont over tighten. but while you have the pan off clean the screen off the oil pick up tube.theyre ussually clogged with plastic shavings from the timing chain guides. have you located the noise yet?

 

Havent located noise. Dont really have a way of listening to it close up..

 

Find a parking lot, bring your creeper, have a buddy drive the truck around while you hang on underneath and ride around on the creeper listening...

whoa! whoa! whoa! just too risky. what IF........! ya done it once when i was young and did things before my thinking process kicked in. just have a guy out side the truck or ride in the bed and try to locate the niose or come close to where the niose is to narrow it down. did you ever try a little pressure on each shifter as you drove to see if the niose changed or stopped.
