Marlin clutch??
I am ready to do my motor swap and its the perfect time to do a clutch. Problem is I want to put a marlin clutch in but they have been unavailable for a while. I am asking if there any similar clutches out there. I have already run a dual friction centerforce and I liked it but they seem more expensive than they used to be. I guess I could run a stock clutch for now but really want a marlin. Any news or ideas on when they will be available?

I know the factory clutch is very good. But I do plan in the near future on going 33"'s and 4:56's and rear locker. That way it will be a very capable grocery getter. I do pull trailers on occasion that are heavier than I should. Not far or on the hwy. but if we at playing in the sand dunes on quads or out playing in the woods it is not unheard of for me to hook up 7k lbs trailer and move it or load up and go to lunch if the row rigs is already occupied. And having a heavy duty clutch is nice for those applications. Also if you are crawling with out the right gears my old dual friction center force would take a lot of abuse with out giving any fade. I will call marlin tomorrow and talk to them and also look up luk clutches.

I heard that Trail Gear is carrying Aisin/Seco clutch kits. Check their website. I couldn't tell you if they're authentic A/S clutches, that will require you to research and read reviews.
I have a Marlin 1200 clutch and I love it, if you're wondering about quality and fitment, it is an awesome, stronger-than-stock-with-a-stock-pedal-feel clutch.

I ran Marlin's 1600# clutch in my 22RE and couldn't hurt it. Needed one for my 3.4 swap and it was on back order for MONTHS! I couldn't wait any longer and got a stock AISIN. So far so good.
One thing that will help even a stock clutch is having the flywheel surfaced with the step Marlin recommends.

If it was stiffer than stock it was slight. Almost unnoticeable. It was my DD and I had no complaints.
I sold my complete engine with clutch to some old man and he is daily driving it with no complaints.

Update. Well I called marlin today and the said the 1200# clutches are 1-2 weeks out. I signed up for the notify me when in stock and now I wait. When I inquired about just using the 1600# clutch I was informed that towards the end of 92 Toyota changed the sizes of the clutch and mine is a 93 so no heavy duty 1600# monster clutch for me. I will just have to wait a week or two to get me 1200# clutch from them. Oh well I probably won't be ready by then anyways. With all the little things that get in the way of hobbies. Like work and marriage ect. Haha. I will keep you updated as I move along. Thanks for the help so far.

Fishguy, I hope they get them before you need it. I was told two weeks over and over again. I just went ahead and waited since I was in the middle of a 3.4 swap that got interrupted by a back injury and surgery.
I was off work over 4 months and never got notified it was back in stock. Finally ordered an OEM Aisin TG clutch kit from Low Range Off Road and got it in a couple days.
I still haven't been notified it's in stock. I love Marlin quality but their customer service........not so much. I recommend a plan B just in case.

Ok got my parts truck motor pulled today to do the long block swap
Pulled the old clutch and fly wheel off. The fly wheel looks good. Only 40k on it. I don't think I need to resurface it. Is it stupid not to? But how do I change this bearing on the rear main seal?
Do I have to change the rear main seal? Is it a pita? Can I use a parts store gasket or do I need to order a oem quality one? Or am I just am idiot? Wait don't answer that last one.
Let me know if you need better pictures.

I'd resurface it, you already have it off. You need a puller for the pilot bearing, I've seen it removed other ways too. You don't have to change the rear main but I would while it's apart, along with the trans input seal.

Just trying to get it done this weekend. I will see if i can find a machine shop open this weekend. What type of puller do I use? Probably the only type I don't have. Typical. If the ream main only has 40k on it should it still be replaced? Money is tight right now. If I have too I will but just trying to save a buck or two. And time. Big time on the time.
