Looking at buying an 84 4runner

194k miles, 22R, 5spd manual, rusty body good frame. I currently have a sweet 86 Bronco, but the ol 302 just guzzles the gas faster than I need to. I love the removable top and the V8, but just too expensive for a student like me. So happened to run across this for $800, questions are:

What typical problems should I look for?

When should the timing chain be replaced?

What size tires can these axles handle reliably, 35s?

Am I going to need a bigger motor to spin 35s?

Please don't me for asking questions, I am searching and reading but I thought some of you nice folks could shoot me some answers real quick like, Thanks for the help!

PS I live in wisconsin, I have land to go wheel on in Clintonville if you are interested, lots of snow to play in right now!

Another thought, how much can you lift the suspension with the stock driveshafts, like before I would need longer ones.

Also are these things leaf sprung all around or are there coils up front?

ok found out they have leafs all around and they are over the axle, so I can't gain anything with a spring over conversion since it is already done! (honestly why would any manufacturer run the springs under the axle, what is the advantage?)

leaf springs all around

It will turn 35's, with a re-gear. 5.29's most likely

probably would go with enough lift to fit some 33x12.5s and get as much travel as possible. I would like to be able to jump it and go fast without worry.
