hey everyone. first of all im a jeep guy, i dont own a toyota...my buddy owns a 97 toyota 4 runner, and he wants to lift it. me and him are going to be doing it, ive installed many lifts on jeeps, but how different is a 4 runner to a jeep. ive never worked with lifting a front independent suspension, hes wanting to do a 3 inch lift kit with new coils, not spacers. so i need to know what to get!!! with a 3 inch on a 4 runner, am i going to have to do anything with the t-case? ive read up on the differential drop. is that hard? will he need new shocks with a 3 inch? if you could show me a complete lift kit that he could buy, that would be the best thing....i would greatly appreciate it....sorry for all the questions...remember im a jeep guy, im new to this toyota world

With a 3", there be no drivetrain modifications as far as Tcase/driveshafts
are concerned.

IIRC, Old Man Emu makes a pretty stout lift kit for these vehicles.

4Runner vs. Jeep? Night and Day... Which may be why you are inadvertently
overlooking the body lift option? Not that it's necessarily a better option, but it is far cheaper.

Yes, with any suspension lift, you will want to go with longer shocks. Some kits include them, others don't.

My 4" drop bracket lift didn't require any welding or fabbing, the only irreversible thing we did was cut off the stock diff mount. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward, but I couldn't imagine doing it without a car lift. It can be done on jackstands in the driveway, but I really wouldn't reccomend it.

I got a Sonoran Steel lift. Came with instructions and was easy to install, except for the rusted stuff I had to deal with on my 1997. Have had the lift for one year and love it. I got the SS 1.1 lift (I think the new version is SS 1.2), but he's got a few different lifts to choose from. I prefer it over my other trucks body lift, much better articulation and ride. He's experimented with lots of different lifts for the 3rd gens and has put together some good packages.
