lifting 2wd

My pickup is shorter than most passenger cars out today. While lifting it would cut down on gas mileage a bit, I'm to the point where the bumpers sit so low I would either run underneath the average civic, or one would park right in the back of my truck in a rear end collision. I was just curious about how I would lift the front end around 4". I figure I could get an IFS rear axle housing and diff from a 4x4 (converting it to spring over) and swap the axle shafts and brake assemblies into the new housing. But I only have about 1 1/2" of lift if I crank the torsion bars all the way. I don't know of anyone who makes IFS drop brackets for the 2wd, or if I could modify a 4x4 one to fit. If I ever did this to my DD I would definitely do it on the cheaper side, so since I can't figure out how to lift the front more than 2 inches, I would be stuck with aal's in the rear, and that's just not enough. If I lift this thing, I want to go big! So basically, does anyone have any more info on a 4" lift for the front? I can take pictures or if you have a haynes manual there are some good black and white ones in there.

2WD ball joint spacers are one option up front:

Or you could go with one of the long travel 2WD prerunner type kits.

I'm such an idiot! I totally forgot about ball joint spacers! That would still leave me with 3" in front if I did both though.

I haven't heard any horror stories about the spacers, so as of now I have settled on swapping a 4x4 rear axle and then cranking t-bars with the bj spacers in the front. I will have to get it aligned after the T-bar crank. While it may be raked in front a little, I don't think it will matter too much, especially when the rear leaves start to sag! If I do any other mods after the lift, it would probably be an auto locker for the added traction offroad, after all I'll still be running the stock size street tires so I'll need all the extra traction I can get! Even though it won't see much off road use. Who wouldn't like to do the same to their DD?
