Larger tires for a 2000 4runner 2wd

Ok. My parents are in need of some new tires for their 2000 4runner sr5 2wd. They have those dinky 225/75/15 tires on there. They look really small in the wheel wells and I would like to fill them up a little more. Anyone have any recommendations for a new size without switching out the rims? How accurate is the speedo with the stock tire size?

Not sure about the 2wd, never having seen one up close. But on the 4wd a 31x10.5R15 fits nicely. As for the speedo it should be fairly accurate with the stock tires, you would have to check yours to confirm. If you switch to the 31x10.5R15 then the speedo will read about 10% too low, ie when it says 60 mph you'll actually be doing about 66. As long as you remember that it's not a big deal. Installing one of these will correct it if you want.

235/75/15 is a common choice
