just got a 4runner-- saggy bottom

im new to yotatech and i just got this 4runner. its actually my truck for my last year of high school. i was hoping to get a jeep cherokee but ya know i'm liking this a lot better. i was surprised how high it sits, almost as high as my friends wrangler with 3.5" lift its a 94 sr5 4wd.

you can see its sagging pretty bad...which im hoping to fix. i know theres no clear best way to fix it...but any suggestions? i wheel on the weekends usually, but nothin too big. thanks.

Welcome. You can't go wrong with Downey HD coils.

yeah its auto. its got 130,000 miles on it, but its running perfect. do the downey hd coils basically take it back to stock height or would i need something up front too?

thanks btw

you may need to crank the torsion bars a little..the downey HD coils raise the back end up 1.5" above stock height and are made to handle heavy loads.

Welcome to YT! If you just want to take the sag out and add a little bit of lift, i'd recommend Performance Products springs and take the advatage of saving 10% by also purchasing 4 Bilstein shocks... http://www.performanceproducts4truck...h+Lift+Springs

The Downey or OME coils may give you more lift then you want. It will have a "raked" stance unless you crank the front T-bars.

Don't forget to post some wheeling pics. It's mandatory after joing the forum.

I used the Eibach springs - the height was about perfect, with the rear slightly higher than the front.

The other option would be to put a mild lift on. Check out the vendor section for a kit for the second gens with balljoint spacers and rear springs with new shocks all around.

I had a 1994 Runner with the Downey 1.5" lift springs in the back, and Rancho RS4000 shocks at all corners. I did not touch the front end or torsion bars. The truck was sagged when I bought it with 45k miles, and then looked really neat and drove great after the springs were added, and believe me, I cornered this truck to its limits before and after the addition. The improvements were phenomenal. I used these springs and shocks for about 70k miles before selling the truck and never had a problem. The shocks looked a bit rusted before I sold it. The con is that it will feel stiffer and it bounced a little more on certain concrete roads.

my 91 had the softest suspension if you where to hit a speed bump at 10mph the front tires would come of the ground and driving down a washboard type road was not fun

If I had to do it over, I would choose one of the kits from Toyotaparts.com and go with the OME's - you dont have the crank the t-bars with the BJ spacers. As you can see from my signature, I have the HD's from Downey and they are not at level any longer - starting to sag after 2 years. I absolutly love the ride when loaded or even when not, but not a fan of the sag. Do yourself a favor with those 31"'s on, get a stabilizer - huge difference in steering response.

best way to answer the question is... what is your budget?

wow you can do a lot for that

definitely go for replacement coils all the way. skip spacers.

okay so i've decided to probably go for the downey hd coils and then i was thinking (since those are only 200ish right?) that i'd probably get some 1.5" ball joint spacers upfront along with new shocks and steering stabilizer. is this a good idea or no? and what kind of spacers do you recommend (assuming its not a horrible idea)? thaaanks.

Save up for option #2

I agree with Lee - I have coils and if I added spacers, my front would be higher than my rear again. use the money for a OME steering Stabilizer and skip the spacers. Only my opinion.
