Intro and Is this 4runner worth it?

Hey guys, new to the forum. I have never owned a Toy 4x4, but have owned a Heep and currently a Bronco. I have a friend who is selling a 98 4runner and wanted your opinion on the price.

It is a Limited, 3.4L, 4x4, 120K miles and is a pavement princess. No mods but it does have new tires. Not sure about locker, but will check the next time I see it. He has owned it since new and has all the maintenace done on it. He is asking $9,000 for it. I think it may be a little high, but I also know that it is in excellent shape. Anyway, glad to be here and hopefully I will be a new owner soon and can spend more time in the forums.

Don't have any. Might be able to get some tomorrow. Basically it is white with tan trim, tan leather interior. Not dents, no lift and basically AT tires.

Well, never mind. Apparently the guys step-son was driving it yesterday and wrecked it. I haven't got the whole story, but both air bags deployed, so I assume it is totaled.

Nope, never got to even sit inside it. I talked to him tonight and apparently most of the damage is cosmetic. It took out the front bumper, grill and drivers side fender, but both air bags deployed. I figure the insurance company will total it (air bags), but if they don't, do you think it might still be a decent car? He said if they fixed it he wouldn't expect me to pay the $9K anymore, but I don't want to spend too much on a car that could potentially have problems.

Yikes! Sorry to hear about that. I'd say just move on and try to find something else. I'm afraid you might have more trouble with it than its worth to be honest. Welcome to the forums!
