Info needed with changing timing chain and gears
I have a 1985 Toyota 4x4 and need to change the timing chain and gears just looking for some advice &/or the do's and don'ts on doing it properly! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

you can down load the factory service manual using the link in my signature
gears: you can pull the thirds yourself, I would recommend having a pro do the gear set up though...zuk has a ton of info on set up here: http://gearinstalls.com/
if you choose not to go that route

The job is time consuming, but not difficult...Keep everything labeled and organized...Its too easy for things to get mixed up once you start pulling it all out...I did mine without taking the head off, but its difficult to make a good seal on the top of the timing cover without taking the head off.... Make sure to tap/clean out all the threaded holes before you put the bolts back in. If you don't, you run the risk of debris interfering with proper gasket seals.
.Get you stuff from ENGNBLDR, they will answer any questions you may have and their prices are great..

I've done three through out past and current toyotas. 1 thing I would suggest is replacing the waterpump while you have the cover off and the fluid drain. The pumps are cheap and it adds maybe 20mins to the job. Lots of gray and or black permatex.
