idler pulley 93 3.0

idler pulley 93 3.0

it appears i have a pretty good leak coming from this unit, how do i get it off and is this a common problem? I had the belt replaced and a new water pump put in not long ago. thought i could tackle this project.. any helpful sugestions?

i believe the trick to removing this pulley is disconnecting the gas line from the cold start injector and this lets you bend it out of the way of the bolts that hold that pulley on the top of the block. its kind of a beech and be sure not to snap those bolts if it has been leaking and is corroded down there. clean all the surfaces well and apply the toyota fipg or whatever that stuff is called. there are some pics on here somewhere on all this. I believe its referred to as idler pulley number 3...or 4.

is this the pulley you are talking about? that in the picture is the idler pulley #2

if it is then you can see 4 bolts just behind that huge pulley just remove the bolts and that cover plate and you have access to the holding bolts @ the intake plenum.I think you can use a wabbly extension and a short socket to remove the bolts but you have loosen the timing belt tensioner the be able to replace that pulley correctly

Who did the belt and water pump, and is it still under warranty. If the pulley is leaking where it bolts to the block it sounds like it wasn't done right.
