idle issues!! dont know where to post, any info would be great!!
I own a 1980 toyota sr-5 2wd pickup 5-speed 20r!! i do a little light off road sooooo. point is i drove to a store the other day and parked my truck, running fine. come back out and it wont hold an idle, it just dies right after startup. I have recently replaced the head gasket, timing chain, dampers, tensioner, gears(timing) , vacuum lines, intake gasket, exhaust gasket, oil pan gasket, fuel pump, carburator rebuild (two years ago, about 28,000 miles) etc, i am having issues with it idling properly, it drives ok its a little jerky once its up to speed, but it the idle rpm ranges from 300 rpm - 2400rpm, if i can get it to idle by itself!! i have checked the vacuum lines the carb, the intake gasket, timing, and other odds and ends related, i need some suggestions to check because i'm out of options!! the engine has a funny smell i cannot describe but it is a new smell, and i can spray starting fluid around the base of my carburator and the idle smoothes out!! i think it is a bad base gasket, but am looking for other ideas because it was running fine the morning of and all o sudden it runs like dog @$%*!! again i have no broken, misrouted, or loose vacuum lines but all the plasticware is stock!? is there a plug, or wire i might be over looking?? another thing is when the truck is pointed up a hill approx 25 degrees, the idle will smooth out, point down hill and it sucks, not sure if this is relative.
