Okay so i was planning on buying bfg km2's 33x10.5 they kick ass and are the perfect size. I relized that i dont have that kind of cash though. So i plan on buying treadwrights because of the price but i can only get a 33x12.5 or 31x10.5 . my truck is an 86 all stock suspenion. i have to use my stock rims. I'm not afraid to trim either. I like the height of the 33 but i dont want a wide tire. Plus i'd have to cram it on a stock rim and im not a big fan of the 31 cause it looks small i have 30's on now and they seem tiny. So if you were in my shoes what would you do??the 33 or 31? Help me !!

 

31's because
a) they are cheaper.
b) you won't have to regear
c)you'll keep pretty good MPG with them
d)you can always sell them later to upgrade to 33's when you get cash

 

Go with something that fits your truck and your budget

I face the same problem. Really like the look of 33's but 31's are more my budget. I am stock as well, and would hate to loose drive ability for the sake of an inch of ground clearance. Just my thoughts!

33x12.50 you'll have to trim A LOT if you use your truck offroad, and the stock rims are too narrow - they will always want to wear the middle of the tire.

Do you NEED tires now? Are they bald, cord showing?

If not, I would save up for the 33x10.50. The BFG AT comes in that size too and is considerably cheaper than the KM2 ... there might even be some old KM's floating around in a warehouse somewhere that I bet you could get a deal on.

 

If tires are a want not a need, save and get the ones you want. Don't settle for the smaller tires if you don't have to. 1" of ground clearance is a lot when you reall think about it!

 

How much do you wheel?

if i were you, i would go with the 31s, because like above, it will save alot of gas, and gas is expensive

 

it depends if u want the look of bigger tires...if u aint scared to trim and like the look put the 33s on there and see what needs to be cut u can always put a 2 or3inch body lift on there later...rancho makes some pritty cheap ones

 

ya i Need tires bad 4 about bald, 1 i am starting to see cords on. how bad is the tire wear issue with a 33 12.5 on a stock rim, any other issues w the narrow rim. i only drive about 20 miles a day no faster than 50 and i plan on hitting the trails every weekend as soon as i get tires.

 

You can cram 12.5 on factory rims but it is not recommended. Will give the tires a rounded profile, I bought my truck that way but change rims when replaced tires.

I would agree with tc. if you need tires your gonna have to find something to make do with for now on craigslist or buy 31's.
Just dont buy BFG ATs!!!! sure they are good on anything dry, but as soon as you hit mud and puddles of water they are terrible, they hydroplane like mad and are too tightly packed so they clog up too easy.

 

I have 33x12.5 on the stock alloys - running about 30 psi to keep it flat. I wouldn't suggest it as it really kills the MPG!

 

I would check Craigslist or a local 4WD forum then and see what deals there are on tires. 31's would probably be your best bet at this point.

I just bought 4 last week for $115 each, and I thought that was a great deal. $85 is just crazy!

If you go with 31s, you'll want 33s...it's just how life works. But seriously, 33s will force you to at least consider regearing, which is a whole other expense in itself.
