how hard would it be to put a 95 v6 in a 81 pickup

ive got a 81 yota and someone gave me a good 3.0 motor trans and wiring i cant find a good 22r so how hard would it be it in there aand get running its a 89 motor my bad

I don't think it's a 3.0 if its a 98..
And if it is a 3.0, it's not a 98.

last year the 3.0 (3vze) was made was in 95

unless it was a 1MZ-FE engine. 1994–2006 which was a front wheel drive engine. I doubt you'l even find a bell housing for the trans to fit a 4wd transmission on it let alone convert to rear wheel drive.

1995–1999 Toyota Avalon had the 1mz-fe engine.

Like anything else after you do a couple they get easier.

The fact you don`t have a complete parts vehicle sitting there you are not sure what year or vehicle it came out of

Could make it interesting trying to integrate the wiring harness.

Also seems like a lot of trouble and work to swap a 3.0 why not go with a 3.4

How hard?? Some peoples easy is another persons very hard .

the 1mzfe is vvti 4 valve heads and a variable intake to long and short runners. it puts out same if not more than the 3.4 all aluminum weighs 200 less and shares the bell bolt pattern with the vz engine family. i rebuilt one of these a while ago and you can get stand alone ecu and run that all day long, do it but you will need a tranny adaptor or go with v6 runnung gear

wow who woulda thought thanks blake, glad someone chimed in on the trans issue I brought up. Only thing with that 1mzfe is that when converting it over to RWD the intake manifold puts the TB/Air Intake facing the rear. And by the looks of it would be right up against the firewall.

don't waste your time putting a 3.0 in your truck. only a few people actually like the 3.0...kind of known as a turd

x2 also you would have to get a matching tranny for the 3.0 block. so in the long run it would be just a pain in the ass. unless you really want to learn how to rewire a vehicle for a motor swap

Yeah, x3 on the 3.0, worst engine Toyota ever made IMO. I don't believe the 3.0 or 3.4 will fit in a '81 truck because it has a stock front solid axle. If I'm not mistaken, that's actually the reason why Toyota went to IFS in '86 - to make more room in anticipation for the 3.0 ('88) and its oil pan and such. You gotta lift the truck to make enough clearance for either of those engines I believe.

not to mention he would need a body lift or hood scoop to fit the 3.4 or maybe even the 3.0

you guys are wrong the 1mzfe is not a 3vze the only thing they share are displacement and bell patterns. the 3.0 is a turd but a reliable one im at 208,000 the 1mz would be a sick swap if you could figure out the intake.

And the mounting.

The 1MZ has no provisions for mounting it in a truck. No to mention an intake that would point backwards.

As for the 3.0 3VZE Truck/4Runner motor in an 81, don't do it. Its a major cost for very little benefit. Way more problems and headache than the few extra HP is worth. If you insist on swapping in a V6, find a 4.3L Chevy Vortec, or a 3.4L Toyota 5VZFE to swap in. Much better designs.

And the 3.0 3VZE was certainly the worst motor made for the trucks/4Runners, but its definetly not the worst motor Toyota ever made.

My old 3.0 wasn't reliable, it was a total POS. In the 2 years I had it - head gasket, idler pulley, another head gasket, water pump, 3 burnt valves, thrown rod (complete with hole in side of the block) - trashed at 148K miles. My 3.4 is at 205K now, 14 years old, and still going with only regular maintenance.

All depends on how you take care of it, and how it was rebuilt. If you threw the cheap Schucks replacement head gasket on it, and didn't have the motor completely gone through, its not a design issue its a rebuild issue.

I had a 1990 4Runner with 220K on it, original motor, doing just fine. Regular maintinence and a few tune up/repair parts (Timing belt, seals, the norm) was all it ever needed.

I hear stories from both sides of the fence, but the guys with bad motors usually have two things in common: Lack of maintinence, and improper repair using inferior parts.
