You got the wrong make, my friend.

A Toyota is something you use when you don't want anything to fail and you don't care how long it takes to get you there. Just, that you get there.

A self reliant, or survivalists truck if you will.

No modified R/E will go as far as a bone-stock R/E. And no modified R/E will get the same high MPG either, as power costs. And it's almost always in fuel and longevity of the engine.

A Chevy Ford or Dodge is something you buy when you do care about how long it takes to get you there, don't care how much fuel it takes, and reliability is not a problem. Because there's always a gas station/ service station around the next corner.

There are instructions somewhere to check what gears you have by jacking up a wheel and doing something? That's what I would do.

Throw out the spare tire..Ditch the bed.. Replace the hood with fiberglass.. Make sure your running stock size tires.. you can probably ditch the oil cap too, that'll save you a couple ounces. If all of that doesn't help then swap out the anemic 115HP (stock, at the crank) 22re and throw in a v6 or a v8.

Nothing cheap when it comes to power.

1st off, the block was DE-DECKED in 85. So the RE IS the short block.

2nd, 20R means NO EFI!

Y'all got any other gems we should know about?

Like how you don't need gears with a 500 horsepower 22RE with 44's?
Your right I have the Tall block and short block confused and reversed. http://ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84715 if you read through to the end you can see that he built a 20R/22RE hybrid but takes considerable trial and error, cash, skills, and patients. Further more celicas had EFI prior to the trucks. There are engines blocks with the necessary bosses in them.

http://www.toysport.com/Technical%20...tech_notes.htm if you read though you'll see the 500hp 22re is not impossible much the impractical and unuseful for a DD but doable.

So thanks for chiming in on topics you aren't fully versed on with no supporting information. To reiterarte you please search.

I always considered putting bigger plug wires on my truck, because these damn Toyota wires are sooo small!
Anyone put bigger wires on? Notice any difference? What vehicle did ya snatch them off?
I was considering the wires off an old 2.3 Ranger 4cyl.

gears, shmeers. You don't need them.

All you need it 385 more horsepower.

To get that, just read the link Muddpig provided.

Or, find a EFI Celica with a 20RE head on it...

Like most things the amount of horsepower you can get is limited to the amount of money you can throw into the motor.

Crazy HP numbers only take crazy amounts of money. Which is just not practical for most people. Motor swaps cost money too.

In my opinon, I would just do a cold air, gut your cat, throw on a nice muffler. NOT a cherry bomb or glass pack. Unless you're gonna be rollin' with the homies down the street and their rice burners. Yaaaayyyyy....
I got a cold air from ebay for pretty cheep, but I would just go down to your local parts store. Autozone, O'Reilly, NAPA, whatever.
Gutted my cat, put on a Flowmaster 44series. Yes, 44 on a 22RE. Crazy? Not even. Sounds awesome. It's not super loud, it's not annoying, it has that quiet, yet deep tone to it. I love it.

How do you post pics on here? I'll post some of my intake and whatever else ya wanna see.

**Most** "cold air intakes" are bottom feeders. And they don't work too well with 4WD's.

That's like putting the tube of a snorkel down, instead of up.

$45 bucks? Ish? Somewhere around there...
You could probably just go to your parts store and build your own, the way you want it, for cheaper than what I paid.

Yeah. It DID! Ha ha. You should be able to see the shield I 'fabbed' up.
I just got some sheet metal laying around the house, bent it up a bit, drilled two holes to mount it to the IAC, (where your filter mounts to) and wrapped it around the filter.
It was basically a straight shot to the filter when it'd rain; water would go right under the hood and get it like there was nowhere else the water wanted to go! lol
