help wiring radio speakers

When I bought my truck it had a system in it that was all blown. Now it does not I took it all out as nothing worked intcluding the radio. Now Im trying to get the radio to work... It turns on but there is no sound. I want to wire up two speakers I have from another truck but do not know how or what wire to run to the speakers is there anywhere I can find a wiring diagram? The other problem is there is a million wires spliced together many color duplicates and many things like say, a red wire spliced to a green wire... its a mess. There is a harness thats spliced into the factory wires that plugs into the back of the radio , so from there Im assuming I can figure out how to wire in speakers but not sure how.

Sounds like you have a mess. What kind of radio are you working on? Factory or aftermarket. For the radio you need a hot wire all the time for memory, a switched hot to cut it off when you cut the truck off and a ground. So three wire for the raio to work. Then take a set of speaker wires coming from the radio and hook them to some cheap speaker if you have one laying around to see if you get sound. Possibility its bad, i had a sony go bad channel by channel now only one channel works with all speakers hooked to it,so its junkd.. If you know which wires are speaker wires you can test them with a 9 volt battery. Sounds like you got a bunch of cleaning up to do. Sorry no diagram, i usually just clean the previous owners mess and do it right

Its an aftermarket radio, There is a harness that plugs into the back of the radio is turns on and off and seems to work just fine aside from actual sound. Which wires are for speakers how can I test for it? and once i find it is it just one wire or 4, two for each speaker. Thats what im confused about

Mine was the same way

If you take out the whole bottom half of the dash, you will be able to follow the wires to see where they go. also, if you go to any decent car audio store with your deck, they will be able to get you the correct wiring harness for it. This usually comes with a schematic of wires and what goes where. After that, get some new car stereo wire (comes in a 50 foot roll for $10) and get to work. I kinda look to see where all the wires go to make sure that I know where the power and ground are, and other odds and ends, then once you get those set up, run the speaker wires and test it out.

Should be two wires for each speaker. A positive and a negative. You should have some solids and some wires with stripes. The plug in the back of the radio just comes out into a bunch of wires? right? If you cut loose all the speaker wires from what you have and seperate them. If you take a 9volt battery and take a pos and a neg speaker wire and touch it to the battery you should get some static. Those two wires go to that speaker.
The previous owner prolly sliced from the radio into the factory wires going to the speakers.
The after market radio proly has like a green wire and a green with stripe for example that is you pos and negative that need to be wired to a speaker. The colors may change just keep your solids with solids and stripes with stripes.
The battery test will tellyou which speakers are which and what color wires are going to them.
Its really simple you just have to clean up and see what you have going where. I will try and get a pic of my vw is a wiring nightmare

Well what I did was figure out what wires where power as they where connected. There was also an equalizer hooked up in the truck so everything is really a mess... I cut away extra wires and found 4 wires that when touched to a speaker made it work. There was also tweeters and several other speakers in this truck so im assuming some of the extra wires where for that. Even though these wires im talking about where capped when I took everything out...All i know is it works. So all i have to do is run a wire from one of these wires to the speaker then off the other terminal on the speaker just ground it to something right? Thats how ive got it working now anyway.

You talking about grounding a speaker? dont ground speakers
Just go solid to solid and stripe to stripe.
Is all the speaker wire you are dealing with factory wires or is it clear.

there should only be two wires for each speaker, a pos and neg. That is why I suggest buying a new harness, which will include a diagram of what wires from the harness go to what wires for power and speakers.

He is past a harness helping. Sounds like the previous owner had a bunch of stuff wired in and almost all needs to come out.
He needs to come out of the radio and splice the correct speaker wires into those. He had to weed thru a bunch he doesnt need ,sounds like.
Should be straight foward when you figure which wires you can use then just pos-pos and neg to neg. Same as stripe to stripe or solid to solid.
If you have this coming out of the radio:
Green solid
green w/ a stripe
Those two wires would go to another set with a solid and one with a stripe of any speaker. If he used clear wires it may just be a copper color and asilver looking wire in the casing. That is the same thing.
Its hard to explain on the computer if you have never done it.

While all of this is helpful it doesnt help me much. Although I managed to hook up one speaker and it works thats all i need. My truck is a trail rig, anything isbetter than nothing. The problem was the secondary harness for the aftermarket radio was spliced from the stock wires and all the new wires where different colors, nothing was labeled right, my ground turned out to be a solid red wire...NOTHING is wired correctly. All the speaker wires where in fact caped or missing from the new harness and im assuming the other two plugs where for the equalizer and that controlled speaker output...

Angry follow up

Hey what’s the follow up to this? I have the exact same issue with my new 2nd gen. The previous owner hacked all the cables up and I can’t get the rear speakers to work. I’ve wired up the rear speakers correctly but there’s one wire (PINK w/ Blue stripe) that is stopping everything

I’ve worked out that the pink/blue is some kind of signal wire for the rear mini amps (inside the pods) to work. If i bypass the mini amps and wire the rear speakers they work ok but I want to know what to do in order to get the mini amps firing.
Did you find out what this one is for? I can’t seem to see what this should connect to on an aftermarket head unit
