Heavy gear oil in rear diff ok?

Hey, I bought some Valvoline gear oil which i think is rated 90w-140 (not exactly sure but it is way higher than what Toyota calls for) thinking that it will be better for the gears. I am starting to have second thoughts about using it now. Can anyone tell me if I will be doing any harm or if it is worth the added protection if it does coat the metal better? I have an E-locker if that makes any difference... Thanks.

I can't say whether or not it will cause damage but I see no reason to run it over the 75/90. If you question at all then why not just use what Toyota recomends?

Yeah that's true. I was hoping someone would tell me its good for the gears but may lower gas mileage or something but it seems that nobody has anything good to say about it.
