which gears are best

i've currently been searching junkyards and asking around for a third member with 4.56 or 4.88 gears and i just want some insurance to make sure i'm heading in the right direction i currently have 94' 4runner with 3.90 gears wanting to upgrade any suggestions or comments will help thanks

3.90 gears? maybe i'm mislead, but your truck should have 4.10s. I would go for 4.88s if you're trying to get 33s someday. you'll like them more than 4.56s I believe.

nope they are 3.90 gears i couldn't believe it either till i looked up the axle code

oh i see. but even with 28's... 3.90's doesnt seem like something that would come in a 4runner, especially considering 81' was the only year toyota put 3.90's in a pickup.

if your going to 35's anytime soon then get 5.29's since you have an auto and if not just get 4.88's you will like them better than the 3.90's. most people would probably recommend 5.71's for 35's and a auto but every ones says there week but zuk has a good right up on them.

it didn't come factory with 31's i threw on 17" wheels and 31's i wish i would've tho 3.90 suck except for pullin i can bearly get over 75

yeah it should have 4.10's, but some one might have put a older axle under it. but if they did it would be narrower in the back.

well mine is a 94 and they are there lol axle code GO72

how hard is it to find a third member with 4.88 thats the question just about every junkyard i've been to all the yota third members are gone

that sucks so what if i go no bigger than 33's and go with the 4.56 wouldn't they prob be alot easier to get my hands on

if you do get the 4.56s you will get better gas millage with the 31's but if you go to a 33, your going to be back were you started, so if i was you i would go with 5.29's for the 33's at the least 4.88's do to the automatics extremely high over drive
